River Dell’s Varsity Boys Lacrosse Team Holds 7-6 Victory Against Westwood in the Bergen Invitational Tournament

The River Dell Golden Hawks Varsity Boys Lacrosse Team engaged in a thrilling battle, ultimately emerging victorious with a 7-6 win against the Westwood Cardinals in the Bergen Invitational Tournament at River Dell High School in Oradell, New Jersey.

Westwood quickly raced out to a 1-0 lead with 10:50 left in the first quarter on a goal from Luke Biello. However, River Dell answered back with less than five minutes remaining on a goal from RJ Weiss. A minute and a half later, Weiss registered his second goal of the game, putting River Dell up 2-1.

With six and half minutes left in the second quarter, Weiss recorded the hat trick that extended the Golden Hawks advantage to 3-1. The Cardinals responded not even a minute later on a goal from Danny Golden.

RJ Weiss continued to dominate on the offensive end, notching his fourth goal with two and a half minutes to go, as River Dell led 4-2. The back-and-forth action ensued as Westwood trimmed the Golden Hawks’ lead to 4-3 on a goal from Dylan Bellinger with 1:42 left.

In the third quarter, the Cardinals tied the game at 4-4 with 10:43 remaining on a goal from Nick Gervais. Fifteen seconds later, Westwood took the lead for the first time since the first quarter on Danny Golden’s second goal of the game.

RJ Weiss, flashing his phenomenal offensive capabilities, scored his fifth goal of the game, evening the score at 5-5 with 9:20 left. With less than six minutes to go, Luke Biello netted his second goal of the game as the Cardinals reclaimed the lead 6-5.

45 seconds later, the game was tied at 6-6 on a goal from River Dell’s Liam Boyle. In the fourth quarter, Boyle bagged his second goal with 10:48 to go, as the Golden Hawks went ahead for 7-6 and withstood a furious Westwood onslaught in the closing minute.
