Phoenix Evans is a 5’10, 160 lb. freshman cornerback on the Don Bosco Prep Ironmen varsity football team and from Irvington, New Jersey.
Evans started as a freshman on the Don Bosco Prep varsity team, played in 12 games, notched 25 tackles, allowed only 34 yards and yielded zero touchdowns, and helped the Ironmen make it to the Non-Public A State Championship.
He was ranked the No—#2 Freshman in the nation by Sports Illustrated in September of 2024. Evans was selected to play in the FBU Freshman All-American Bowl Game on December 21st in Naples, Florida, and participated in the FBU Top Gun Camp in June 2024.
Phoenix holds 13 offers, including Marshall, Penn St. Pitt, Michigan State, and UMass. He received his first offer from Jacksonville State in May 2024, then Akron, Temple, West Virginia, Purdue, Rutgers, Boston College, and Syracuse in June 2024.
Evans started playing flag football at the age of six and then with equipment from the ages of 7 to 10 for the Irvington Golden Knights. Phoenix is the sixth member of the Evans family to play for the Irvington Golden Knights.
He also played on the 11u for Brick City(Newark, NJ) and 12-13u for the East Orange Jaguars. Evans suffered a broken ankle early in the 13U season, which led him to reclassify at Saint Joseph Regional and eventually to play for Silk City 14u(Paterson, NJ) and the FBU NJ 8th Grade Team.
Phoenix comes from a football family. His Dad, James Evans, graduated from Irvington High School in 2004. He played as a true freshman at the University of Buffalo and led the MAC (Mid-American Conference) with four INTs in 2004.
His Uncle, Josh Evans, graduated from Irvington High School in 2009, played safety at the University of Florida, was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2013, and played one season with the Washington Commanders in 2016.
His cousin, Justin Evans, Class of 2022 at Irvington High School, is currently a redshirt sophomore at the University of Nebraska and starts on the offensive line for the Cornhuskers football team.
His cousins Rashawn and Dajon Evans both played for Irvington High School.
