Lamar Best 6 TD’s propels St. Joseph Regional(Montvale) to a 44-19 win over Paramus Catholic

The St. Joseph Regional(Montvale) Green Knights relied on a phenomenal one-player offensive outburst from QB Lamar Best, tallying 6 TD’s in a 44-19 rout of the Paramus Catholic Paladins at Saint Joseph Regional High School in Montvale, New Jersey.

St. Joe’s put up the first points of the game on the scoreboard late in the first quarter on a dazzling 46-yard touchdown run by Lamar Best. Taking the snap, Best shook off numerous tackles, darted towards the middle of the field, and then back to his left before sprinting into the open towards the end zone.

In the second quarter, the Green Knights caught a break on special teams. A high snap on an attempted Paladins punt went sideways as the ball rolled into the end zone, and the punter kicked the ball out of play for safety, making the score 9-0.

With St. Joe’s retaining possession of the football on the next offensive series inside Paramus Catholic territory, the Green Knights pounded the rock on the ground seven consecutive times, culminating in a two-yard touchdown by Lamar Best that extended the advantage to 16-0.

Paramus Catholic’s offense had an opportunity to get on the scoreboard, but time was winding down in the second quarter after a muffed punt by St. Joe’s. However, Vincent Ferrara registered the sack on a fourth and goal at the six-yard line.

In the third quarter, the Paladins eventually broke through on a three-yard touchdown run by quarterback Crew Colon, but the two-point conversion failed, leaving the score at 16-6.

The Green Knights answered back immediately on their ensuing possession as Lamar Best connected on a 40-yard touchdown pass to tight end Brady Shust.

After the St. Joe’s defense forced a quick three and out, the Green Knights, in lightening fashion, were in the end zone as Lamar Best wowed the home crowd with his athletics skills on the ground, scampering 41 yards to pay dirt for his third touchdown on the ground.

St. Joe’s special teams caught Paramus Catholic napping as they attempted a successful onside kick. Lamar Best, displaying his proficient throwing accuracy, connected on a couple of passes. A personal foul assessed against the Paladins’ defense set up first and goal at the one-yard line. Best, demonstrating his brute strength, barreled into the end zone for the score that boosted the margin to 37-6.

In the fourth quarter, Lamar Best capped off a tremendous offensive performance by recording his fifth rushing touchdown on a five-yard run.
